Are you sitting comfortably…?
A new
campaign developed by Public Health Devon launched this week called ‘Are
you sitting comfortably?’ – to highlight the risks of sedentary
behaviour - plus simple things you can do to break it up and move more during
your day. We know that being active is great for our health but frequent
movement during the day is just as important as regular physical activity.
Even if an
individual is active, if they spend a long time being sedentary each day they
are still at risk of harming their health – so it’s important to raise
awareness of the need to reduce and interrupt sedentary behaviour alongside
the benefits of being active.
To support
the campaign, Public Health Devon have developed a video clip, infographic and
‘sitting calculator’. As most people are probably unaware of how
sedentary they are, these digital tools are designed to raise awareness,
trigger realisation and offer ideas for small changes that can make a
difference.
